Andrew Wyatt : Correct . Yeah .

And so I guess that was probably the part of this project that was the most nerve wracking , was never having done it before and coming in and then slowly visualize out it was going to be maybe the heavy film of the twelvemonth . And-
Mark Ronson : I conceive also we wrote these two birdcall first " Dance The Night " with Dua and " Ken " . So we had this musical language that we ’d established and that we could tell that Greta was into . And I think that the first thing that we really scored , the whole process unraveled organically . Mark Ronson : Yeah , so Greta had her wishlist of artist , and it was moderately much the same as mine because , obviously , you have Nicki Minaj , Billie Eilish , Dua Lipa , who ’s run short to argue with that ? And because of Greta , we were able to get artists in so early to show them in such a rough form of the pic the aspect and the parts where their Song were function to belong to , everybody just , these are all some of the outstanding , most imaginative young musicians and artist around . So everyone took that .

Andrew Wyatt : Well , I suppose you always go for that a moment like that is memorable for people once especially we knew that he was go to be singing the birdcall in the film . And we have a similar ambit , like our voices . So I think that it made it easier for me to guess him singing sure notes and coming in at sure floater . And we ’d watched the film enough that we knew , well , at least I felt I had a connexion to that character .
And I mat up like that character was so brightly played and so expressive that it was easy to piece up on node of emotion from his carrying into action and adjudicate to generalise them out into the Sung dynasty that was going to be at that minute in the motion-picture show . But we were quite astonished at his professionalism and his chops really . I do n’t conceive he did many takes on the vocal . Mark Ronson : Yeah . Well , they had compose this song and they had actually sent this ballad that was just them , a piano . It sounded like one take . At the last , she was like , " Should we do it again ? " And then it skip off . So I cognize that they were just live at the pianoforte and it was so great that when they articulate , " We want to fix it , " I was like , " Oh no , " because that go on to artists a draw . They need to redo it because they do n’t realize how magical the demonstration is . But they redid it and added production and it was even better .
And the vocal , which I had such demonstration - itis for the first one , she even surpassed it . And then at the last minute , Finneas was like , " Do you guys need to add anything ? " And we were a little bit freaked out because this is this perfect vocal . They have such a audio together , we do n’t want to really degree Fahrenheit - ck it up . And because we had then , at that point , we had been orchestrating a batch of the motion picture , we had a look .
And I add together some of the same synths that we had been using at other more emotional mo in the film and just get off it back . And they were like , " Yeah , f - ck , we love it . " And just fox it in . And so that was really honeyed of them to let us touch their Sung dynasty . And it ’s also a f - cking amazing Sung dynasty . So it ’s grand to be a part of it .
It is absolutely an amazing Sung dynasty , and this whole soundtrack is quite awesome . Now , if you would ’ve told me thatBarbiewould’ve been such an emotional journey with a true message being based on that plaything a few year ago , I would ’ve severalize you you ’re unhinged . But it literally was the best movie of the year . For you guys , what did Barbie entail to you cat growing up ? And what does Barbie mean to you now after working on the moving-picture show ? And we ’ll begin with you , Andrew .
Andrew Wyatt : Can we bulge with him ? No , I ’m well-chosen to utter about that because when I was a kid , obviously , it ’s the doll . It ’s the one that , it ’s everywhere you go . It ’s at your cousin ’s house . It ’s at your nanna ’s family because it was played with by the former coevals . So there ’s the eldritch Barbies in the cellar .
And so for me , it was one of those things that , I mean , we ’re having a harder and harder clock time it seems as a fellowship to find things that we all experienced and all have in coarse , sadly . I think it ’s one of those miniature that really did touch just about every family in the country and still does . And so that life was picked up on , I cogitate , by Greta . And the film was call on into something that was one of those things that brought a mint of unlike people together . And that was a very beautiful affair to be a part of .
And how about for yourself , Mark ?
Mark Ronson : Yeah , for me , I mean , I moved , I ’m sure that Barbie ’s big in England . I mean , obviously , the movie ’s been monolithic there , but it was n’t something I really think back growing up . We have our own weird interlingual rendition of whatever your dolls are . But plain , it represented something of moving to America in the 80 ’s of Barbie with the pink Corvette . It was this , I ’m in America now , it ’s He - Man , it ’s Barbie . There was this very , it just very aspirational Americana affair to it .
And now I think what ’s so gaga is that Greta has changed , if you ask me now , " What does Barbie signify to you ? " I ’m like , oh , my first picture is in reality Margot Robbie ’s side jump into my head before a plastic doll that ’s had the same face pretty much for 70 year . So I think Greta ’s and Nikki Minaj for the past 15 year has interchange what you associate Barbie with . So I think artists like Greta , Nikki , whoever , have actually change … Barbie can mean whichever Barbie is your Barbie , I suppose .
