Screen Rant : I love this film , Don’t Suck . It is not what I expect it to be . It has a pile more existent , devout moments in this film . Rick D’Elia wrote this film . He ’s a fantastical comic himself . What attracted you to the book ?
Jamie Kennedy : precisely how you felt , like it should n’t be this good . I could n’t believe it . The original title was called Two Pint Minimum , and when I project it , I ’m like , " This is so corny . " And that was the only corny matter about the hand . The min I get going reading it , I ’m like , " This is funny . " It ’s really mirthful . It ’s really real , and then it ’s a bizarre idea , but it could be credible the fashion it ’s played . And it was original , so I thought , " I beget it to give this a shot . "
Yeah . Listen , I think the one matter that I found the most fascinating about this is that stand - up comedian , just by nature , are really out there characters , a lot of them — and this kind of captured that absolutely . He ’s just a alone … If you attend at him , he ’s unequalled . If you listen to him , he ’s singular . His psyche is unique . I mean , he ’s so quick off the dome .
I do n’t think citizenry realize how hard that is . So he looks like a twilight character , but yet he has the razor shrewd mind of the best comedians . That ’s a crazy combination . And I believe him . The way he play it , I believe it . It ’s like , " Is he English ? Is he just really American ? " Madonna had that accent . It ’s like that . It ’s just a really prissy , right English . It ’s a really good role , and he ’s great in it .
Something else I loved about this photographic film too is it almost feels like a comedian , buddy road trip as they ’re going from venue to venue and townspeople to townsfolk . How much of that is kind of based on literal life ? I know that plainly he ’s a vampire , and he ’s not a vampire in literal living , but I ’m just let the cat out of the bag about two comedians going on the route together and go to dissimilar venues . How much of that is ground around Rick ’s real aliveness ?
Jamie Kennedy : Oh , I think it ’s all based on his real life story . I think all of it ’s true . A comedian dating a local , having his girlfriend from the baseball club , and then going on the road and just travel with your pal and getting an undoer and making them do all the work and break from metropolis to metropolis , and blaze spear to hell gig . It ’s like , " Oh my God , what am I doing ? " It ’s crazy because it ’s a world that I know so well , and I ’m like , " Are people going to empathize this tuner scene ? " But the radio panorama plays so well because it ’s good , but it ’s real .
It ’s like that ’s what really come about . You ’re stagnant to the world . You meet some chipper young intern , and then you meet these DJs , and then as before long as off the air , it ’s unlike . Jamie Kennedy : He thinks it ’s stupid . He thinks it ’s a gimmick . He ’s like , " What is this ? A cat ’s out there … " It ’s a near gimmick , but it ’s like , " Okay , it ’s just stupefied . You ’re not being real . " And then it ’s actually the most brainy matter ever because he is being existent . He ’s being who he is . He ’s being a lamia , just no one would ever believe it . And it ’s like , in a way , what you think is a taxicab gimmick becomes the most original voice in comedy and squander up . And the movie , it ’s a metaphor for things , but it ’s unbelievable .
I love the relationship between Pete and Ethan . specially when we ’re on the road trip , we see this literal bond that ’s formed . First , it ’s awkward , but then it becomes a material friendship . Can you verbalize about how we explore that kinship throughout the film ?
Jamie Kennedy : Well , you see him , Pete ’s just like a veteran dog , and then he meets this guy , and you always will satisfy openers . That ’s real . And then there ’s people that are like , " I ’ll do anything to open up for you . " And that ’s true too . mass will do it . They ’ll carry your luggage , they ’ll give you tags , they ’ll betray your merch , but they ’ll never pay you . Usually they ’ll drive and clobber , but they wo n’t pay you their money and then pay you . It ’s like , " Whoa , what the the pits is that ? "
So then he does it , and then he realizes that Pete ’s like , " There ’s something off about this hombre , but he ’s interesting . " And then we take up realize that he ’s not lying about what he articulate . And then finally , Ethan usurps Pete , and I tell people the movie ’s a docudrama because when I did this movie , I was the known guy and Matt was a newcomer . Now Matt is a supernova . And I ’m like , " Hey , buddy . " So it ’s really a documentary .

He ’s always been a ego - starter , and that ’s how … He ’s just fun . So we ’re shoot in Vegas , we ’re have a in force fourth dimension , and then off - cover , we would just riff and talk and just keep it going . We went to Circa , had a lot of meals together and just laughed . But chemistry just kind of came natural . I guess that when the great unwashed told me about him for this role , I was like , " That ’s interesting . " And then as I watched his blind mental testing , it was awe-inspiring . It was fucking complete . And I ’m like , " This was written for this guy wire . "

But really , I do n’t have it away if the worldwide pop whole know who he is all the way , but one of these character that is just the great at their workmanship .
And Carrot Top was so sweet to come in and do a half a day and just kills it . Then Russell , again , another caption comes in , kills it , gave us a daylight , and was like … We had to turn with his schedule . And then Jimmy Walker who derive in , also another 24-hour interval , so we had to schedule it right . I have in mind , Jimmy Walker raised me .
Russell and Carrot were the class above me , but multitude that I look up to . And Jimmy was also one of the first comedians I ever regard who I looked up to .
