Spike getting wounded is the perfect manner to remind readers that the battles here in the Energon Universe are n’t without result . While the outlet release thus far have featured monumental smackdowns between the Autobots and Decepticons , author / artistDaniel Warren Johnsonis keen to give the activity weight and significance by showing the after - core of battle . Under Johnson ’s pen , the action is more than just robots smack each other around , but rather eventful news report events that have genuine stakes . The human position is crucial to this new epoch ofTransformerscontinuity , and having Spike wounded by the bullet train fired by his own dad and his ally is a powerful reminder of everything that ’s at stakes in the Energon Universe .
