Screen Rant : I am very excited to chat with you both . I ’ve really look up to your oeuvre on this show since come on board as showrunners in time of year 4 , and it ’s just catch crazier and more exciting ever since . The finale is a very fitting one , with you guys having been on so long with the show , when did you first get laid what the end for the show would be ?
Andrew Chambliss : Very good question . You lie with , we found out towards the terminal of time of year 7 that time of year 8 would be the final season . At that point , we start really throwing around different ideas for how the show would end . Ultimately , for us , you make out , this started as a show about Madison fighting for her family , and it matte up like it should end with Madison with her family unit . So , we always had the idea that Madison and Alicia would be reunite at the end of the time of year , so kind of as early as the last of time of year 7 , we were already talk to Alicia about having her derive back to give that kind of gratify ending . So , it was kind of at that point from the end of season 7 that we were really thinking about how we would kind of narratively impart all the characters together so that that would be potential .
Now , with that said , I do find it interesting thatAlicia is absentfor pretty much this full time of year until the finale , was there ever a different plan for her character in term of maybe having a dual story between her and Madison that finally would meet ? Or was it always the programme to have her just be sort of a last appearance , while pore on Madison ?
Ian B. Goldberg : The way that it played out was always the program , and there were a couple of intellect for that . A vainglorious one , a pragmatic one , was that Alycia Debnam - Carey was no longer a series even on the show as of the terminal of time of year 7 , so establish out any large narrative for her would have been very challenging . Alycia was off doing other project , she was not as contractually tied to the show , and so that just opened up a pathway for us to finding a different way to create that reunification . But , the way that we chose to do that was by create this narrative interrogation about Alicia ’s fate and seeing what that did to Madison and the other characters , and the blank space it have them to emotionally , and bringing Alicia back at the final stage of the stopping point we saw as Madison ’s karmic payoff for variety of ultimately make the right decision and not letting go of her ideal , even in a very black instant . So , that ’s kind of how that all came together .
I love the way it plays out . But with that said , the finale really confound quite a few carpeting puff from the audience in terms of Madison ’s potential death twice , as well as PADRE ’s skinny downfall . I ’m curious if , in old version of the final script , there were ever existent putting to death of any of these main inwardness characters before you end up with what we have ?
Andrew Chambliss : Kind of as we conceived the narration , we knew that the character who survive are all go to last , so we did n’t really go down any route and then double back to commute that . I think , for us , we wanted this to be a finale that show how all these characters had changed , and it felt up like in ordination to see that modification , we needed to have the potentiality for future growth . For so many of these character , I think this is just kind of a moment where this chapter of their lives is ending , and the next one is starting . For us , we want to finger like these next chapter were proceed in all these different counselling , and it just did n’t include death for any of them .
Well , I ’m glad that it did n’t , having comply these characters for so long , it definitely would have hurt find some of them go . But with that said , talking about next growth and exit the chapter , we do see the main radical split up at the goal , and you talk about wanting to have them have next growth . Do you guys have estimation for succeeding quality stories , whether it be part of the anthology series that ’s going on , or even a spinoff ?
Ian B. Goldberg : That ’s really more of a interrogation for Scott Gimple and AMC . You ’ve seen the finale , so these character narrative are construct in such a direction that they live on , there is more history to order . They are going their separate agency , but they ’re all carrying the weight of Madison ’s and Alicia ’s legacy . And there is sure enough a raft more write up to say there , so , we ’ll see , I guess is the answer . But our destination was to just bring Fear to a satisfying conclusion , and to result start the possibility of more storytelling should the powers that be resolve that they want more .
Is there any character in this show who either you bring out or who you just help develop over the seasons that you would have it away to see continue on in this enfranchisement ?
Andrew Chambliss : I desire to see a Daniel and Skidmark spinoff . [ Chuckles ] Like a Turner and Hooch , but Daniel and Skidmark .
I guess that would be with child . Ian , how about yourself ?
Ian B. Goldberg : Oh , a prequel serial with John Dorieat Humbug ’s Gulch and how he sail the Book of Revelation before meeting June .
I would love that , I would love more of Dorie in ecumenical , that was such a great fiber . So , in the net crack , we see Strand have to see Alicia and Madison and Tracy all together . But was there ever a thought of have everybody see them all alive , or was it always run to be just Strand that was the one who make to have that knowledge that they were live and together ?
Andrew Chambliss : It ’s funny , it was always just Strand , we did work around with some version where Strand in reality had an fundamental interaction with Madison and Alicia . But to us , the moment just feel more poetic , if it played as really a grace note , and he knew that his dream for Madison was come true that she was going to get to have this prison term with her daughter and kind of allow it to be just their bit . That ’s what felt kind of dead on target to us , so that ’s the narrative behind that .
