Even best , the journey has just begun , with 11 more books from Robert Jordan ’s epic fantasy saga exit to adapt .
One character who underwent massive development in season 2 was Marcus Rutherford ’s Perrin Aybara . Like Rand , Perrin has had a difficult time embracing who he see himself to be ; in this case , he is a wolfbrother , or a homo who can pass with and sympathise Wolf . The theatrical role ’s acceptance of his identity is certain to do into romp afterPerrin’sThe Wheel of Timeseason 3 apparatus , which promises more exciting performances by Rutherford .
Amazon Prime Video ’s The Wheel of Time season 3 is gestate to adapt ten major engagement scenes from Robert Jordan ’s high fantasy Quran serial .
Screen Rantinterviewed Marcus Rutherford about operate with the detent who play Hopper in season 2 , how Perrin ’s interactions have shaped his character , and more .
Marcus Rutherford Talks The Wheel Of Time Season 2
Screen Rant : It feel like Perrin , more than other characters , has been getting to gather all of these dissimilar groups ; he ’s spend time with the Tinkers , the Aiel , and the Seanchan . How much do you see those interactions work who he is as a grapheme ?
Marcus Rutherford : Yeah , I consider that was really critical about season two . I imagine in season one , their group [ is ] getting dragged everywhere , and they ’re still a bit like , “ Can we go home ? What is this ? ” Perrin particularly has n’t even had time to reckon out who he is , what he is , or where he ’s going . And as a fictitious character , he does n’t specially speak as much as the others . I retrieve it was really helpful to isolate him for a number , see him in different scenarios , and see how he grows and see the things he determine .
With the Sheinarians he sees this military mathematical group , and for somebody who has been so oppose to fury , he ’s seeing the camaraderie , the leadership office , and things [ like that ] . So , I reckon he ’s check from that chemical group straight from the off , and you’re able to see how the time has passed . And then plain , with Elyas , he at last brings to head this wolfbrother thing that he ’s been avoiding , or did n’t really want to sweep up up until that percentage point , and still finds incredibly daunting . [ It ’s something ] that he has to instruct about himself , and embrace that it ’s not something you may just neglect anymore . Elyas is like , “ You have to live outside of this region [ where ] they do n’t understand you to subsist . You ’ve got to live in the woods and eat raw substance and stuff . ”
And I consider the fundamental interaction with Aviendha is really beautiful . He ’s still hold this weight unit of violence , and the psychic trauma that comes with the ramifications of picking up a weapon or deciding to contend . He ’s been carrying that , and he encounter someone who treats it as a dance , embraces it , and almost does it for merriment . I think that is such a completely different philosophical system [ that ] he has to kind of question how it ’s used , its purpose , and , I think , its inevitableness as well . I think this idea [ of ] the clobber with the Tuatha’an in season one [ where ] you’re able to take to not be tearing … I think he ’s starting to realize that , as upright on paper as it sounds , it ’s [ not ] actually as promiscuous to put into practice .
I love the scrap scene with Aviendha and Perrin where she ’s destroy people , and you do such a good job of [ showing that ] Perrin is in the combat , but he ’s clearly not eager . Was it hard for you to convey that in the middle of all the chaos ?
Marcus Rutherford : No , definitely . What ’s funny is , I always ascertain a fight sequence , and the stunt guys always get me doing all sort of material , and then Rafe is like , “ No . No . Not yet , anyway . ” They ’ve got me doing all variety of stuff , and it ’s like , “ He ’s come to chill out a moment . ”

I think you see [ that ] from the first raid where the Seanchan add up in [ to ] when he hold up back to Atuan ’s Mill [ and is in ] the Aviendha fight , he ’s kind of put in these post , and I think his fighting style is kind of like , “ I have to protect myself or others . ” It ’s not really that kind of , “ I ’m belong to show who ’s boss , ” or “ I ’m going to this , ” or anything like that , which I cerebrate [ are ] some of the other fighting technique construe in the show . It ’s interesting . It ’s backbreaking to have someone who know their strength and their potential difference but still is quite hesitating to fully bosom it , but I imagine that kind of creates the journey he ’s last on .
I know some threads from the books are being adapted and changed , and the show has established its own identity operator . Do you feel like there ’s a chance of a romanticistic relationship brewing between Perrin and Aviendha ?
Marcus Rutherford : It would be sweet , they get on really well , [ and ] it would be really interesting , but I would n’t say so . [ That ’s ] not what it is , but I think what was really interesting , watching it back , is that it ’s kind of the first intimation of someone even potentially flirting with him just for fun or whatever . He does n’t know if she ’s trying to pour down him or flirt with him , and I think you see he ’s just not ready for that in any elbow room , but I call up it ’s interesting for his journey .

I intend that there are so many fundamental interaction for Perrin in season two that do a destiny of foundation and plant germ for poppycock , and I think his relationship with Aviendha is really particular . I cerebrate that adaption of what [ happened with ] Gallia in the books — how [ Perrin ] break [ him ] out of the cage , and all that material — was in reality a really voguish adaptation . To have a eccentric quite fiery and spiky like Aviendha around Perrin , I remember , was really smart writing . I cerebrate he ’s not really there at that mo that they assemble , but I think it ’s a really good friendly relationship .
I require to ask about Ka Lupinka as well . Hopper ’s destruction ferment so well on screen . It ’s so sad . How was it work with Ka Lupinka , and were you surprised with how well that view come out ?
Marcus Rutherford : Yeah , it was really interesting . I remember when they were going to use real animals ; there ’s a limit of scale of what you may do with them . You ca n’t have these big chilling VFX creature and all this kind of stuff , so you kind of have to admit that , but what you get from it is a genuine animal and a actual connection . You get a substantial connection that people can see on screen , and you ca n’t really cheat that . I intend a lot of people can belike relate to their own pet or own animal in a mode that I just do n’t think a CGI brute could make for across on screen .
And that domestic dog was a freak , man . It was so well - school . On the day that we did that , they get under one’s skin her to lie down and depend at you past the camera . Our fauna handler , Maria , was just mad . You ’ve set about so much decease on as well . In that moment the dog act placid , but you ’ve got people doing fight succession outside , you ’ve get people talk , you ’ve suffer a gravy guy , you ’ve get a wakeless guy ; all this , and the dog ’s just lying there look straight at me , and it was awing .
There were a lot of consequence where I was like , “ This is really particular . ” There ’s a scene where he ’s talking to Elyas and I was like , “ Oh my God . The dog ’s got to sit here for this whole setting ; it ’s go to be quite hard . ” Then they make for in this massive deer carcase for all the other dogs to eat just over there , and I was just like , “ What ? You ’re telling me she ’s just become to stay put there for the whole conniption , seeing all her friend use up ? ” And there were import where it was so moth-eaten — it was , like , snowing — and I was just like , “ This is n’t go to operate . We can try it , ” and she just stayed there the whole sentence . She did n’t try and fly the coop off , did n’t attempt to run away to the proprietor , did n’t hear and eat …
She ’s not a masher , she ’s kind of a loanblend that looks like a bounder , but they ’re Czech wolfdogs ; it ’s still in their nature . They ’re not the well-off to prepare , as beautiful as they look on tv camera , and she ’s just amazing . She ’s just been unbelievable . They say , “ Do n’t make for with kids and animals , ” and all that stuff , but she was unbelievable , and I ’m so beaming they made that decision to have a real animal . That connection , in that instant , just hit so much hard . It was a highlighting of season two for me , for sure .
I read that Rafe Judkins allege time of year 3 was a big one for Rand and Perrin . Is there any way of life that you ’re excited to develop his character or anything you ’re excited to see him do in the next time of year ?
Marcus Rutherford : I recollect that image that you see at the end of season two with the centre full gold … that ’s the place we ’ll be picking up from , which I think is really exciting . There ’s a change within him . Without last into detail , people who know the books know Perrin ’s journey , and know what happen , and it ’s really exciting what ’s go on in season three for all the character . There are some really cool , exciting people , and exciting moments , and for those who know the book or know what happens , hopefully we ’ve done it lofty . It ’s been really , really exciting to exercise on .
